Introduction
Visual Beats is an experimental program which aims to engage young people in creatively documenting their educational surroundings through the medium of VJing.
The students will reflect on their educational area- their school, and be encouraged to take still photos and create films that best reflect what they feel about where they learn.
The students will present their documentation through the live and interactive medium of VJing- mixing images to music.
VJing is essentially like DJing only with visuals. VJing is a live presentation and challenges the students to perform in front of an audience and ensure that they are fully prepared for their moment of fame!
The students create a 'track listing' of their images in preparation for their performance. Students will learn how to mix between visual tracks, add effects and think about the mood they are creating through their performance.
The project as been created as part of the innovative learning strand of work developed by Preston Manor City Learning Centre (PMCLC) in conjunction with Woodfield School.

Overall the students are very able and willing to communicate ideas in a variety of ways but may not be so good at written work. VJing has been chosen as a multimedia form as it is very expressive and hands on and not only suits the learning needs of the Woodfield sixth form, but also has the ability to challenge the class in a number of ways.
Assessment
This project has been developed in conjunction with the Welsh Boards scheme of work. The students are going to work with the advertising module to create an innovating 'performance advert' about their school. The students will work towards a 30 minute piece that will be performed live as to the rest of the school. The performance will highlight good and bad bits about the school as told by the students.
Expanding the opportunity to others
VJing works best when performed to music. It has been suggested that the sixth form students perform their VJing to music that has been produces by other people in the school. This would work very well as it would provide a very interesting and engaging insight to the school.
Scheme of Work
The project has been designed to take place thorough out the summer term 2006
The project will run on Tuesdays either at Woodfield School or at Preston Manor CLC (PMCLC)
