The SWITCHED ON project uses digital technologies to engage with young people (aged 14 – 17) outside a formal educational environment. It's a unique opportunity to gain a Level 2 OCN accredited qualification in Creative Media which has also been embedded with Numeracy and Literacy Basic Skill Units. The project provides flexible, individual learning plans – aiming to encourage each student to achieve the very best they can according to their strengths and goals. Learning is based around enjoyably innovative multi-media workshops including music, video, animation and digital imaging.

SWITCHED ON enables young people to build the skills and confidence necessary for a career in the media industry through the support of its committed team, input from media and business professionals and by providing media-based work placements.

The SWITCHED ON project has been developed by Preston Manor City Learning Centre in partnership with Brent Council, Biggafish, BBC and the National Youth Theatre with funding from the Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund.

Digital Imaging Portrait Workshop

In this workshop students learned to use a SLR Digital Camera and softbox lighting techniques to achieve professional studio quality images. They will be using these images when they design their ‘music video’ CD covers and other promotional material using Photoshop.
