Project brief
The aim of the project is for year 9 to produce a website dedicated to giving a voice to the year group.
The students will be able to choose the issues they think are important and want to speak out to change. Over the course of the summer term they will turn those view points and issues into a co-ordinated internet campaign outlining their opinions and vision for Brent.
As a citizenship project it incorporates a number of key requirements as outlined in the National Curriculum criteria including developing skills of enquiry and communication (especially 2b and c) and developing skills of participation and responsible action (especially 3b and c).
In addition it will give the year 9s the opportunity to work together as a year group, develop their team working skills and thus (hopefully) encouraging positive relationships between and within form groups.
This project is about
- Getting the student voice heard - creating structured arguments and discussion pieces
- Students identifying and researching issues that concern them
- The year group creating working together to create one vision
- The creation of a legacy and a learning resource
In total over 220 students aged 13-14 of varying abilities and skills divided into 8 teaching classes.
The project has been divided into two parts. The first half of the Summer Term will focus on deciding the content of the website. Students will vote for the topics that they deem are most reflective of their visions for the website. The topics will be submitted by students who will create campaigns to encourage their peers that their ideas should be part of the project. The Campaign.
The second half of the term looks at Creating the Website. Each class will create a section of the website - eight classes means eight pages in all. Within each class six groups will be formed. Three groups will look at pre production- researching content for their webpage, with the other groups looking at 'post production': additions to the webpage -audio & film and the creating of the webpage itself.
