Inspired by the CLC's 'into media' project Preston Park Primary is developing it's own persuasive media campaign targeting an adult audience. Research and discussion
The project has been designed with delivering and supporting the KS2 curriculum in mind. Children begin by discussing the brand names they know and the importance of having preferred brand names in comparison to lesser known brands. Study the advertisement of familiar and favoured brands (layout, language used, persuasion which influences desire to have an object or go out and make a purchase. Literacy skills focus on features and styles of persuasive writing.
The project runs over six weeks with advance preparation at the school followed by all day sessions at the City Learning Centre where digital technology will be used to transform the learning experience into a multimedia resource.
Children are made aware of the object they will be advertising and plan a market research session to conduct with 4 adults (2 male, 2 female). Children are to think of brand name and advertising ideas to use in time for the market research session.
Market research session
Each group has 10 minutes within which to gain ideas and finalise advertising campaign. The children then plan and create an advertisement using Photoshop, digital recordings and sound clips based on persuasive writing previously completed.
Presentation of advertisements and feedback given from the same market research panel who participated earlier within the project Children conclude the topic by self-evaluating the adverts.
