A major 21CC learning project. 'Over To You' offers teachers and students the opportunity to use film making to support the Key Stage 3 curriculum, with a focus this year on Geography and Science.
The project aims:
- To offer teachers and students the opportunity to approach the traditional curriculum using the power of creative media
- To establish film making as a meaningful way of supporting curriculum learning and key skills
- To enable pupils to use film making as a tool for creative expression
- To create quality films, but most importantly to enjoy and learn from the process of making the films
- To create a sustainable model for rolling out the project nationally.
Building on the success of Over To You in 2004-05, 21CC has worked with 7 City Learning Centres and 11 schools from London and Newcastle.
Teachers were invited to 21CC, where they were trained alongside volunteers from the BBC (recruited through Learn for Real) in filming and editing techniques. Each teacher was then matched with two BBC volunteers who supported them and their pupils during the project I school and through sessions at their local City Learning Centre (CLC). The year 8 pupils created short curriculum-focused films combining their own footage with specially released clips from the BBC Creative Archive.
Each school nominated one of their films to be included in a celebration screening for all participants and other VIP guests on Tuesday 9th May 2006 at the Odeon, Leicester Square.
