The City Learning Centre is working
with the Brent Youth Service to help
the children of new arrivals into the
country who speak none or little
English. The centre has invested in
software which helps learners become
confident in spoken English. Brent Youth
Service staff co-ordinate the program and
tutor the students twice a week out of school
hours at the City Learning Centre. Centre staff
plan and run enrichment activities using digital
art, animation and creative audio.
Brent Youth Service staff and centre staff work
with the young people to facilitate their personal
and social educational development during a period
of transition in their lives, from dependence to
independence. The aim is to enable them to gain a
voice, influence and a place in society.
