An IP address such as 193.22.4.786 consists of four numbers separated by dots. Each number ranges from 0 to 225, creating millions of possible addresses.

• Like your home address, it is unique to the world.
• It is used as a unique id for a computer or server on the internet.
• When you connect to the internet at home, you are automatically assigned an IP address by your ISP.
• Usually an ISP will assign an address with the same numbers for the first two dots.
