Multimedia combines listening to radio shows and music, watching animations and videos clips and playing games on the internet. Special software called plug-ins (also referred to as a player) are usually pre-installed when you purchase your computer.

Popular plug-ins include QuickTime, RealPlayer and Shockwave and Windows Media Player

If the web page you are viewing requires a plug-in or if the one you have needs updating, you will often be prompted to download it.

Clicking the appropriate button takes you to the website where you can download the plug-in. The basic version of the plug-in are usually free and they download quickly. Once it is downloaded you may have to locate the file and follow the on screen instructions to install it. Sometimes the plug-in will automatically install itself.
