Step 1 - Locate the Program

A. Find a website that will allow you to download software e.g. www..zdnet.co.uk
B. Select the file you wish to download (this may begin the download process in which case ignore the next step).
C. Click the download link.

Step 2 – Download the Program

A. You will be asked if you want to save the file, click save
B. In the save dialogue box that appears, select where you want to save the file (by clicking on the down arrow in the ‘Save In’ box at the top).
C. Make a note of the filename. You can see if the file is a zip file or an exe file. (If it is a zip file, you need a compression program to open it. If it is an exe file, you do not need a compression program to open it).
D. Click Save.
E. The download begins. If the file is large and depending on the speed of your Internet connection, the download will take some time to complete. The estimated time to download will be displayed in the progress box on your screen. A 1mb (1 megabyte) file may take up to 20 minutes.
F. When the download is complete, You will get a message to say download is complete.
G. Click close or finish or O.K.
H. You're now free to log off the internet.

Step 4 – Installing the Program onto your Computer

1. Double Click on the downloaded program. (If it is in a zipped folder then when you click it, your compression program should open it to reveal the program inside. Click the name of program inside)
2. You may get a message that says ‘Setting up the Installation shield’.
3. Agree to the terms by clicking ‘I Agree’.
4. You may have to select the ‘recommended Installation’ option.
5. Click ‘Next’ continue until you see ‘Finish’.
6. Click Finish.

The program is now ready to use. Usually the program can be accessed either from the desktop by clicking the icon for it, or by selecting the name of the program from the programs list via the Start menu
